Migrating from Paperpile

Paperpile exports BibTeX from the Workflow → Export menu. The PDFs live in your linked Google Drive folder; you’ll grab those separately.

Export from Paperpile

  1. Workflow → Export → BibTeX — exports your full library or a folder.
  2. Open your linked Google Drive → Paperpile folder and download the PDFs (right-click → Download).

Import into Ad Marginem

  1. Settings → Data → Import — drop the BibTeX file.
  2. Drop the PDFs in batches. The bulk-attach workflow under Library → Bulk Actions → Attach PDFs matches them by filename + title.

Caveats

  • Paperpile’s “labels” become Ad Marginem tags.
  • Paperpile’s “starred” maps to Ad Marginem’s star.
  • Annotations in PDFs survive if the file was annotated outside Paperpile; Paperpile’s web-only annotations are not exported by their tooling.
