Migrating from EndNote
EndNote exports XML and RIS. RIS is the most reliable for cross-tool migration.
Export from EndNote
- Open your EndNote library.
- File → Export — select RIS (or EndNote XML for the maximum fidelity if you’re transferring to another EndNote install, but RIS is what Ad Marginem reads cleanly).
- PDFs attached to records are stored in the
.Datafolder next to the.enllibrary file — grab those separately.
Import into Ad Marginem
- Settings → Data → Import — drop the RIS file.
- Drop the PDFs from the
.Datafolder; the bulk-attach workflow matches them by filename → title.
Notes
- EndNote groups → Ad Marginem collections.
- EndNote keywords → Ad Marginem tags.
- EndNote custom fields don’t have a direct map; they land in the freeform
notesfield on each item with a[EndNote: <field>] <value>prefix. - “Rating” stars carry over.
